Earlier today, the Jamaica Observer reported that a number of cruise passengers sustained injuries in a a four-vehicle crash.  The passengers were traveling on a tour bus on their way back from the Dunn’s River Beach in St Ann along the Carey Park main road in Trelawny.

Injured passengers were taken to the Falmouth Public General Hospital.  Subsequent Twitter posts by Royal Caribbean Cruise Line revealed that 21 passengers from Independence of the Seas participating in an excursion in Falmouth, Jamaica were involved in the crash.

“We are saddened to report that a guest passed away,” Royal Caribbean later tweeted. “Three other guests were injured and are being treated at the local hospital.” The company also shared that crew members have gone to the local hospital to assist.

This tragic accident serves as a sad reminder that shore excursion accidents can and do happen even on seemingly safe and leisurely tour rides.  A number of bus tour excursion accidents involving various cruise lines have occurred in the past several years with resulting deaths and injuries due in part to lax investigation of tour vendors and their employees by the cruise lines.
